Manchester City will serve Borussia Monchengladbach in the second leg of the 2020/2021 Champions League last 16, Wednesday (17/3/2021) at 01.30 IST. Maybe only bad luck could thwart Citizen's move to the quarter-finals.

Along with restrictions on entry access imposed by several countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UEFA moved the venue for the first leg of Monchengladbach vs City to a neutral venue, namely Puskas Arena, Budapest, Hungary. The second leg will also be held at the same venue.

In the first leg, with the status of the visitors, Manchester City won 2-0 through goals from Bernardo Silva in the 29th minute and Gabriel Jesus in the 65th minute. The city was also seeded to qualify for the quarter-finals.

One of the reasons is Monchengladbach's poor performance. The team made by Marco Rose has always lost in their last six matches in all competitions. Last weekend, one Florian Neuhaus goal was simply not enough to prevent his team from losing 1-3 against Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, City's record of 21 consecutive wins has indeed ended with a 0-2 defeat against Manchester United in the league. However, Josep Guardiola's team was able to immediately get up and win two consecutive wins, namely 5-2 over Southampton and 3-0 over Fulham.

When overthrowing Fulham last weekend, John Stones and Gabriel Jesus contributed one goal apiece for their team. Another goal came from the penalty spot by Sergio Aguero, who started for the first time since returning from injury.

Manchester City is very close to the league title. Now, City needs to focus on ensuring qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals by eliminating the German representative at the Puskas Arena.
