English Premier League
Date: 6 November 2020, Friday
Begins at 20:00 UK time / 21:00 CET.
Venue: St Mary's Stadium (Southampton).

Southampton, unbeaten in their last 5 Premier League games, will look to increase the distance when they meet Newcastle United on Friday.

In the 7th round, the Saints beat Aston Villa 4-3 for their fourth win of the season after two losses. The victory could be convincing, and they were leading with an accuracy of 4: 0, and the flurry of goals scored caused them anxiety.

Danny Ings, who scored his team's 4th goal and then flew out of bounds 5 minutes before the game, is now confirmed to have suffered a knee injury and will be away for at least a month. This will be a big loss for Ralph Hasenhutl, as Newcastle is also in some form.

Meanwhile, the Magpies unexpectedly beat Everton 2-1. They have achieved all sorts of results this season, but are obviously purposefully looking better in this campaign under the tutelage of Steve Bruce.

Newcastle are in 11th place in the table, 6 below their Friday hosts with 3 wins and 2 draws in 7 games.

Southampton and Newcastle meeting

Newcastle United are unbeaten in their last six games against Southampton, 4 wins and 2 draws.

The corresponding game last season resulted in a victory of the “forty” with a small score of -0, but this is their first victory since 2004 at St Mary's Stadium: 2 draws and 4 losses out of 6 previous ones.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in nine of the last 11 Premier League meetings, but both teams have scored only 6 of them.

In addition, only 2 of the last 7 at St Mary's Stadium have both scored.

Southampton - Newcastle Prediction

The bookmakers see the hosts as solid favorites with 1.85 to win here, but I believe it will be an equal competition. Newcastle can be a handful for teams and Southampton, despite their excellent performance, can be volatile.

So I will go with both teams to score as my main pick and here are my reasons. Southampton have scored in every game except the one that opened the season against Palace. But so far, they have scored over 1.5 goals in each of their three home games.

Meanwhile, Newcastle has the same tendency to score as the home team, and have scored in each of their three away games. This gives us a second bet on over 2.5 goals in regular time, and low-goal Premier League games are rare.
