Portugal will host Azerbaijan on matchday  1 Group A 2022 World Cup Qualification in the European zone, Thursday (25/3/2021) at Juventus Stadium, Turin, Italy. Both teams are aiming for an optimal start.

Taking into account the situation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Portugal has submitted a request to move the venue for the match against Azerbaijan from Lisbon to Turin. The request was granted. The Portugal captain who strengthened Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo, also seemed to be playing at home.

Until recently, Portugal was still on the UK red list for COVID-19. This means that Premier League players who return to the club are required to undergo quarantine. However, Portugal is now out of the red list.

Even so, Portugal vs Azerbaijan match will still be held in Turin. Italian media reports that Ronaldo's role is behind this move.

Apart from that, both Portugal and Azerbaijan are ready to try to show their best performance. The target, of course, is optimal results in the initial steps.

Portugal and Azerbaijan are part of this group along with Serbia, the Republic of Ireland, and Luxembourg. On paper, Ronaldo and friends are the main favorites.

Along with Portugal vs Azerbaijan party, Serbia will serve the Republic of Ireland in Belgrade. On the next matchday, three days later, the Republic of Ireland will host Luxembourg, and Portugal will play away against Serbia.

The Portuguese coach, Fernando Santos, has called up his best players. Raphael Guerreiro (Dortmund), Ruben Dias (Manchester City), Joao Moutinho (Wolverhampton), Sergio Oliveira (Porto), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid), until Ronaldo is ready to play against Azerbaijan, Serbia, and Luxembourg at the international break this time.

Apart from the superior quality of the squad, Portugal's position in the latest FIFA rankings (5) compared to Azerbaijan (108) is also the reason why A Selecao is so favored to win. Can Azerbaijan create surprises?
