Match Preview

Two rich clubs with classy squads, PSG and Manchester City, will face off in the 2020/2021 Champions League semifinals. Neymar et al. will act as a host first.

In the last 16 of the Champions League, PSG eliminated Barcelona 5-2 on aggregate. All of this cannot be separated from the big contribution of Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick at the Camp Nou. Meanwhile, City eliminated German representatives, Borussia Monchengladbach, 4-0 on aggregate. Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne, and Ilkay Gundogan played a big part in their goals.

In the quarter-finals, City again met Germany's representatives, namely Borussia Dortmund. Phil Foden was instrumental in passing the team made by Josep Guardiola with a 4-2 aggregate advantage. Meanwhile, PSG was also confronted by representatives of Germany, namely defending champions Bayern Munich, who beat them in the final last season. Mbappe again showed his sharpness, and Mauricio Pochettino's side escaped thanks to an away goal advantage 3-3 on aggregate.

The last meeting of the two teams who have never won the Champions League leaves bitter memories for PSG. The French giants were tackled by City in the 2015/16 Champions League quarter-finals.

At that time, PSG was coached by Laurent Blanc, while City was coached by Manuel Pellegrini. In the first leg in Paris, goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho gave City a 2-2 draw. In the second leg in Manchester, De Bruyne's lone goal gave City a 1-0 win and sent his team 3-2 on aggregate.

Including the inaugural meeting in the group phase of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, which ended 0-0 in England, meaning that PSG has never won every time they face City (W0 S2 L1).

PSG certainly doesn't want that bitter record to continue. Supported by ammunition such as Mbappe, Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Marco Verratti, Marquinhos, to Keylor Navas, PSG has the capacity to beat anyone, including the British hero who just won the Carabao Cup.

The last few days, PSG has been haunted by anxiety regarding Mbappe's condition, who experienced a problem with his thigh when he beat Metz in Ligue last weekend. However, the French number one striker is expected to be fit for the duel against City.

That doesn't seem like good news for Manchester City.
