Match Preview

Barca will visit Benfica's headquarters at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica to play matchday 2 of UEFA Champions League 2021/22 group E, Thursday (30/09/2021) at 12:30 midnight Indian time.

In the opening match, Barca performed very poorly and had to swallow a crushing 0-3 defeat to Bayern Munich at their own headquarters. In that match, the  Blaugrana could not even release a single shot that led to the goal.

With this defeat, Barca is now at the bottom of Group E with a collection of 0 points. Facing Benfica in this match, victory is clearly a fixed price for Barca to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout phase.

Barca itself has prepared well ahead of this match. Last week, Barca succeeded in picking up a 3-0 victory over Levante in La Liga through goals from Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong, and Ansu Fati. The victory will clearly increase the confidence of the Barca players ahead of facing Benfica later.

On the other hand, Benfica in the opening match was only able to pick 1 point after being held to a 0-0 draw by Dynamo Kyiv. These results make Benfica now in the second position in Group E standings with a collection of 1 point.

Benfica itself is also in very good condition ahead of this match. Last week, Benfica managed to get a convincing victory over Vitoria Guimaraes with a score of 3-0 through Roman Yaremchuk's brace and Joao Mario's goal in Bwin's Portuguese League. The victory extended Benfica's slick record to 17 matches in all competitions without a defeat (W13 D4 L0).

Barca and Benfica last met in match week 6 of the 2012/13 Champions League group stage which took place at Camp Nou. In that match, the two teams were only able to draw 0-0.
