Match Preview

MU will face Villarreal at Old Trafford in matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2021/22 group F, Thursday (30/09/2021) at 12:30 midnight Indian time.

This match itself is a rematch of last season's UEFA Europa League final. In the match which took place at the Gda?sk Energa Stadium, MU and Villarreal drew 1-1 in normal time. Villarreal opened the scoring first through Gerard Moreno's goal in the 29th minute, before finally being equalized by Edinson Cavani in the 55th minute.

The draw forced both teams to proceed to extra time. However, there were no goals in extra time which required both of them to continue the match to the penalty shootout. In this high-fives around, Villarreal came out victorious after beating MU with a score of 11-10.

In this match, MU is clearly very ambitious to be able to avenge his defeat against Villarreal. However, if you look at the performance of the Red Devils lately, it is clear that this is not an easy thing.

Last weekend, MU just lost at home with a score of 0-1 to Aston Villa in the English Premier League. The defeat was MU's 3rd defeat in their last 4 matches, including the defeat to Young Boys in the opening matchday of the Champions League.

The defeat of the Young Boys made MU now at the bottom of the group F standings with a score of 0 points. Meanwhile, Villarreal who in the opening match drew 2-2 against Atalanta are now in third place in the standings with a collection of 1 point.

Villarreal itself is also in a bad condition ahead of this match. Last week, Villarreal were only able to draw 0-0 against Real Madrid in La Liga which made them only pick 1 win in their last 4 matches (W1 D3 L0).
